Katya received her M.F.A. in Musical Theater Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of Arts. She is a 2nd-year member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Writing Workshop. Katya is currently working on Poetry and Prose, a new full-length musical about the personal and creative struggle of the Russian poet Anna Akhmatova.

Women on Love (music, lyrics) began as a series of 'female-oriented' songs written in William Finn’s lyric writing masterclass at NYU, and has been expanded and transformed in the past several years. Past productions include the Second Avenue Songbook Series (NYU), Laurie Beechman Theater, Square One Reading Series (performed in part), and New York Theatre Barn Presents at the D-Lounge. Lightning Man (co-lyricist with Shoshana Greenberg, music by Jeffrey D. Smith; additional lyrics by Janet Allard) was written as an NYU Thesis, and was chosen to receive a full production at the New Musicals Summer Workshop at NYU. Lightning Man is based on the story of Roy Sullivan, a survivor of seven lightning strikes.

The Dragon (co-book writer, co-composer, lyricist, with Daniel Lincoln) was written as an NYU thesis, and had a reading in 2008.

Fruitflies (original concept, music, and lyrics; book co-written with Jennifer Pilong) was produced at the Philly Fringe Festival in 2005 and at the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Theater Festival in 2006. Fruitflies chronicles a year in the lives of two straight women, their relationship with each other and the gay men in their lives.

Katya’s stand-alone songs have been performed at Joe’s Pub, The Duplex, Zipper Factory, Barrington Stage, and Goodspeed Opera House.
